Maria Miritello is a member of the research staff at the Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems (IMM) within Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) in Catania, Italy. She received her M.Sc. degree (cum laude) in Physics and PhD degree (cum laude) in Materials Science from the University of Catania (Italy) in 2002 and 2007 respectively. She had a post doctoral position at the same University. Her research activity is mainly focused on the development of of innovative materials for the realization of advanced devices for Si photonics, microelectronics and photovoltaics. In particular she developed thin films synthesis to control the structural, electrical and optical properties of mainly group IV nanostructures, undoped and doped with rare earths (REs), rare earth based compounds, phase change materials, and transparent conductive oxides. All the optimized materials were applied in innovative devices, such as electroluminescent devices, optical waveguides, photodetectors and photovoltaic cells. She is author or co-author of about 110 papers on ISE scientific journals in the field of photonics, photovoltaics and microelectronics, holding an h-index of 28 and about 2500 citations (Scopus, 2023, October). She co-organized an international scientific Symposium at E-MRS Spring 2016, being also co-Editor of the relative Special Issue on Journal of Luminescence, edited by Elsevier. She was invited speaker at several international conferences, member of editorial board of scientific journals, peer reviewer for several scientic journal (Physical Review B, Scientific Reports, Optics Express...). She was also supervisor of Master and PhD theses at the University of Catania.
