1 Introduction The base phenomenon governing Raman amplification is Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS), which generates vibrations in the lattice of the medium (optical phonons) and transforms the photons of the pump radiation, turning them into lower energy ones. This process allows a gain on an optical signal to be created, provided that the signal is propagated at the frequency of the diffused light.
